Ogden Nordic Ski School Director

PSIA Level III Cross Country Instructor, PSIA Level I Alpine

PSIA Intermountain Division Education Staff

I have been involved with Ogden Nordic since 2012, first starting our PSIA affiliated ski school, then masters race team, in addition to serving on the Board of Directors. My skiing background started in alpine as a kid in scotch-guarded blue jeans. I continued skiing throughout a collegiate career in track and field, then professional racing in triathlon, cycling, and other endurance sports. Cross country skiing became my love when I moved to Ogden Valley in 2007. In addition to becoming a level III instructor for PSIA, I have competed in the sport and was named the Intermountain Nordic Marathon Series Champion in 2016. I joined the education staff for PSIA in 2024 with the hope of expanding the programs we not only offer to the community in Ogden Valley, but also regionally to promote the sport. I live in the Ogden Valley with my husband, Lee, who loves sliding around on snow as much as I do, and our cat, Pepper, who unfortunately has no interest in anything frozen.

PSIA Level II Cross Country Ski Instructor

I have been an instructor with Ogden Nordic for seven years in addition to teaching a couple seasons at Mt. Spokane, WA. I began cross-country skiing at age 38 while working in northern Italy. Seeking a way to enjoy the outdoors and stay active through the winter, I quickly fell in love with the sport. Two years later, I joined a local ski club and spent over a decade competing in races throughout the breathtaking Dolomites mountain range. I teach because I love sharing his passion for skiing and helping others discover this sport and the beauty of Utah’s winter landscapes. I get great pleasure in seeing the moment a small adjustment in technique brings a big smile to a student’s face. Before becoming a ski instructor, I spent most of his career in the health and fitness field. During the final two decades of my professional career, I specialized in exercise physiology and corrective movement assessments while working as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force.

I have been a Nordic ski instructor with Ogden Nordic for seven years and previously taught for two winters at Mt. Spokane, Washington. I was born in Venice, Italy, and lived in a town near the Prealps until the age of 37. I began cross-country skiing at 20 and spent many years exploring the beautiful trails of Piancavallo and around Dobbiaco, Italy. I teach because I enjoy meeting people and sharing one of my greatest passions — cross-country skiing. When I’m not on skis, I love mountain biking, hiking, and traveling. I spend my summers in Italy, enjoying time with family, friends, and the outdoors.

PSIA Level II Cross Country Instructor

US Paralympic Nordic Team Volunteer Guide / Coach

Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports Vice-president and Adaptive Cross Country / Alpine Instructor

Winter and snow sports are my favorite time of the year. I grew up skiing cross-country and alpine in Colorado and northern California and raced both in high school. I still love to challenge myself in long distance races and guiding visually impaired (blind) racers with the US Paralympic movement. My wife Stacey and I settled in Ogden Valley in 2012 after my 25-year Air Force career. I have been involved with Ogden Nordic since 2012. I love to share my passion for cross-country skiing with others. For over 40 years I have served the veteran and disabled communities. I’ve been on the Board of Ogden Valley Adaptive since 2013 and a volunteer coach with the US Paralympic Nordic Team since 2019. I represent District 5 on Ogden Valley City’s first City Council. When not skiing I enjoy horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, gardening, and watching the sun set in our beautiful Valley.

I’m pretty much as international as they get. I was born in Los Angeles, California to Swedish parents and moved to Switzerland when I was barely a year old. I was raised in the Alps as an alpine skier and started cross country skiing when I moved to Northern Sweden in 2010 to attend University. It began with back-country cross country skiing to explore the deep forests of the north, and evolved into skate skiing in 2015 when I moved to the Swedish mountains to work as a ski guide (a two year certification I had worked on during University). I guided and taught single and multi-day downhill and cross country lessons and trips, and inspired by the other guides, picked up skate skiing in my free time. I enjoy pretty much anything athletic and adventurous you can do outdoors, such as trail running, rock climbing and river rating, and spend my winters almost exclusively cross country skiing. In 2020, I moved to Utah to experience the mountains, met my husband and settled in Ogden. We have two energetic pointers and an arguably more energetic toddler. I’m excited to share my passion for cross country skiing with others!

PSIA Level II Cross Country Ski Instructor

I have been an Ogden Nordic ski instructor for three years. Prior to this, I coached, skied, and occasionally raced in the Minnesota-Wisconsin area. My husband and I spent six years living and working in Sweden where we got schooled on all things nordic skiing by a whole country that cherishes this sport. I enjoy skiing on any trail that has sufficient snow coverage and still can't decide whether classic or skating is the best. When I'm not on snow, you'll find me on my mountain bike or down at Weber State where I torture young minds in the wonderful world of Chemistry. Dags att åka skidor!

Jr Program Instructor

I am a former Collegiate Ski Racer out to enjoy the winter wonderland. I did not ski growing up, but joined in High School because all my older friends were doing it. I have volunteered and coached for Juniors, Junior High Programs, High school Clubs, and a Biathlon Program in WY and WA. I have enjoyed the progression that people can have in a life long sport such as XC Skiing and how we can all participate in it at any level at any point in our lives. I have found great joy in sharing my learned experiences with others to hopefully help individuals participate in skiing as a lifelong endeavor. Skiing at North Fork has brought back many memories of racing in UT through High School and College. The memories about the community and people I have come to enjoy spending time with. It has reinvigorated me to participate in this small, but precious community that Ogden Nordic has cultivated.

Keri Ostergaard Welch

PSIA Level II Cross Country Instructor and Jr Program Instructor

Born and raised in Durango, Colorado. I'm mountain grown 4-H kid, who learned to Nordic ski on used gear and earnings from summer jobs. I spent years on the triathlon circuit in the Junior Olympic league, also on used gear and earnings from summer jobs. I paid my way through college by savings I started in the 3rd grade, plus working at a dairy. I'm not stranger to hard work and not taking things for granted. Always loving the mountains, I became an accomplished alpine skier as a result of teaching 15+ years at night and on the weekends. I earned Level 2 for Alpine long ago (expired) and earned my PSIA Nordic Level 2 last year. Now I'm working for my level 3 Nordic. I'm very interested in adaptive ski instruction as well; I believe skiing is for everyone (even uphill skiing). As a professional, I am licensed and endorsed as a Special Education Teacher; a Teacher of the Visually Impaired; and an Assistive Technology Professional (A.T.P.) through RESNA. I specialize in low tech solutions and have worked at the Utah School for the Blind for over a decade. I believe all people, of all abilities can enjoy outdoor pursuits—even uphill ones! I'm a mom to two insane terriers and a wife to "my adorable old man". We live in Huntsville, where we own and operate the Atomic Chalet B&B. I'm a total people person but also enjoy being out on the trails solo as well. I'm high energy but can tone it down when needed, so we focus on meeting goals! Goals are so important, they keep us moving forward!

After a lifetime of alpine skiing, I’ve discovered cross country and there is no turning back! I love being outside in nature, especially in the mountains and on snow. It’s a treat to ski on Ogden Nordic’s magnificently groomed trails. In the off season, I hike, run, putter in my yard and keep my fingers crossed for an early snowy winter. I live in Huntsville with my husband, Swampy, and our kitties.

Ski School Volunteers

Kevin and Sue are part-time residents of Ogden Valley, primarily in the winter months. Their long-time home is in Cheyenne Wyoming. They have enjoyed all types of skiing across the West (downhill, back country, classic and skate) for decades. Ogden Nordic is such a gem, they are happy to spend some volunteer hours to help others experience the joy of the outdoors and the fun of skiing.
