NORDIC MUSINGS
The 25-26 season has been challenging so far with warm temps and rain delaying Ogden Nordic's opening until Jan 9. We are open but and trails are holding up so far but we need more snow. Several team members as well as Ogden Nordic fans have been working on poetry, writings and other thoughts to boost our spirits. Enjoy and please send us your own writings via the form at the bottom of this page.
Yesterday's sky was a perfect blue,
the kind of day that feels brand new.
I tracked through silence, crisp and bright,
just me, the shoes, and the winter light.
So let the powder fall thick and fast,
to make this winter beauty last.
- Kornelia Fillmer, Ogden Nordic Enthusiast
Mud mud mud
Frozen mud? Afraid not!
Slipping and sliding and mud on za butt!!!
New vacuum for mud dried in the house
Moved ski boots to back room.
Trying not to look at the lonely skis.
Another hike on one of the few gravel roads left passable.Sigh
- Liz Poulter, Ogden Nordic Enthusiast
Can this be winter?
Eyes and hearts looking skyward
Barren ground abounds
- Haiku from Linda Wysocki, Greeter & Support Team
Rain, rain go away.
Come again some other day.
Rain, rain what's the reason
That you are here in the wrong season?
- Helene Liebman, Board Member
Hiked up to South Skyline Trail yesterday.
Looking for snow. That failed so we still pray,
Slimy mud instead of frozen ground,
Preferring to have the white stuff all around.
Wondering if this is really a winter day,
But only mud from the bottom to the top all the way.
I finally just let go and let my worries drop.
I am reminded that regardless of weather, I love this place non-stop.
I played in the puddles like when I was young.
But I am older now, that song is sung.
I sure like snow much better than muddy clay!
Remembering how mom would hose the mud off us at the end of the day.
But the view was still stunning like it is every day.
The skies tried to be blue but were mostly gray.
I got a good workout and my legs felt the strain.
Today, there is more rain.
Again!
- Peter Turner, Avid Ogden Nordic Enthusiast and Greeter
I'm just touching base to say hello
And to keep up the hope that someday there'll be snow
So we can groom the trails for folks to bike and to ski
And can be greeted at the trailhead by you and me!
Until that time, please keep up the chants and the calls
For the sky to open up and let the white stuff fall!
