Donation Request 2017

posted Jul 30, 2017, 7:27 AM by Mick McLennan

Remember that fantastic day you had last season at Ogden Nordic…snow, sun, great trails?  We want you to continue to have great skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking next season also!  We have an important fundraising opportunity sponsored by the Community Foundation of Ogden Valley (CFOV).  Any contributions designated for Ogden Nordic received between May 1 and September 30 will be distributed to Ogden Nordic and matched by the CFOV.  This fundraising event is critical to our operations at Ogden Nordic.

Donations can be made by sending a check made out to Ogden Nordic to PO BOX 57, Eden, UT  84310  OR Online.  Go to http://cfovoverdrive.org/donation/ogden-nordic/  and click on donate, enter your preferred donation amount and follow the instructions.

Your donation to Ogden Nordic will allow us to continue to meet our mission, which is to promote the sport of cross country skiing in the Ogden Area.  In addition to grooming our amazing 30 Km of cross country trails, we have expanded trails to accommodate snowshoes and fat bikes.  Being a multi-use trail system in a county park, we do our best to meet the needs of all who want to experience quiet sports in the County’s beautiful North Fork Park.

Donations are used for maintenance and operation of our grooming equipment, which includes a snow cat, and 4 over-snow vehicles.. Donations also support our Juniors program, which last season expanded to include youth from the Ogden YMCA.  Our special events which are also supported by generous donations include Winter Trails Day and Moonlight Glides.  Several new programs are in the works for next season to make it easier for more people to get out and enjoy our trails.  Of course all of this is facilitated by our wonderful Nordic Center (yurt) and the ski and snow shoe rentals available for use by the public.

Please help Ogden Nordic keep North Fork Park trails groomed and accessible for skiing and snowshoeing so everyone can experience the Magic of Winter in Ogden Valley.

Fellow racers, the Ogden Nordic Championship is nearly upon us!  Despite the warm weather we currently have 3-4' of base on the trails at Ogden Nordic.  Please join us February 18 for the Ogden Nordic Championship.

We have a 5k and challenging 10k course lined up for this years race. The maps for both courses with some notes about the course features are below.

As in past years we will have post-race food and a swag raffle for racers and volunteers.  Back by popular demand are the limited-edition Ogden Nordic pint glasses for the top-3 in each race category (5/10k, Female/Male, Masters/Juniors).

Race details are listed in the flier below.  Registration starts at 8AM at the Nordic Center at North Fork Park, race starts at 10AM, $20 entry fee.  Kids 12 and under are free to race the 5k course. Please join us for the event and invite your friends.  This is a great race for the beginning and experienced skier alike.  If you haven't been up to see our trails this year this is a great opportunity.  Your race fee gets you access to the trails for the day so stick around and check out the rest of our 30k trail system, some of the best corduroy in the mountain west!

Beware of Moose

posted Jan 30, 2017, 1:43 PM by Alan Wheelwright

With the deep snow the local Moose population have decided to make the nordic trails their home. There have been numerous incidents of Moose acting aggressive and charging at skiers. Stay a minimum of 300 feet from any M
oose, they can run faster than you can ski or snowshoe.
Please leave your dogs at home. If you do bring your dogs, they must be on a leash.
Help us keep Ogden Nordic a safe place to ski this winter.

Dig for O'Nordic

posted Jan 26, 2017, 2:15 PM by Alan Wheelwright

We need your help to dig out from the last storm. Join us Friday morning from 10-12am to shovel off the Nordic Centers roof and help clear/find signage. Please bring a sturdy shovel, grain shovels (large flat blade metal) work best, and dress appropriately. With your help we can get this done quickly.

Juniors 2017 Update

posted Jan 7, 2017, 11:16 AM by Mick McLennan   [ updated Jan 14, 2017, 5:56 AM ]

Greetings from the Ogden Nordic Juniors Program!

This week was the beginning of our ski lessons for students in grades 3-12.

Mother Nature has provided us with an awesome amount of snow that has made the ski conditions great. Equally exciting is the level of participation from families like yours. We currently have 12 children participating, with the majority in the Tuesday session.

Because we want to include everyone in our program, we have decided to cancel the Thursday session and invite all students in grades 3-12 to our Tuesday class. The oldest students we actually have at this point are 8th graders. All participants will be divided out into groups based on their abilities as needed. There will be three P.S.I.A. trained instructors leading the lessons. We hope we can better accommodate everyone with this plan.

The Tuesday session will begin at 3:45 pm with everyone gathering at the Yurt, then from 4:00-5:00 pm we will ski, and pick-up should be complete by 5:15 pm.

Please let me know if you are interested in carpooling with other parents. I currently have Ashly McQueen, one of our instructors, picking up students from Valley Elementary. There is another mother from Ogden who wants to establish a carpool from there. Her daughter attends St. Joe's. I am happy to connect interested parents to a carpool. Send me an email with your needs.

For our next lesson on Tuesday, January 17th, Natalie Davenport will be our parent volunteer in the Yurt--thanks so much!

Again, we welcome you to our Juniors Program! Please contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Kristen
